  1. Something I really took to during class was just how difficult it is to become a successful actor/actress. Everyone believes that actors are just lucky and get famous from the publicity they attract. That may help, but these people have a love and a passion for there craft.

  2. i think this class will be very helpful in helping me understand more what it takes to be an actor and also help me become a better writer. as someone who wants to write and direct i have very high hopes for this class and I'm very excited

  5. I thought my first day of class in Acting and Directing was fun and interesting. Even though the instructor sometimes spoke quickly do to the time, I understood what he was saying and payed close attention.I learned that it's more convenient for an actor to get an agent first and then afterwards get a manager.I personally like the class and think that I'll learn more about being an actor and a director.

  6. Week 2 was quite entertaining. I liked the fact that I got the opportunity to read in front of people. I learned that I have to act a little more vulnerable when performing my monologue. I also have to make eye contact with the character that I'm talking to while performing.

  7. this week to was very enlighting. we went over our best directors and actors and also gave reasons why we picked who we picked. it was very interesting finding out why people chose whom they chose and also i think its indicative of how we would choose the different styles when we work on our own stuff. rehearsing the monologues gave me great input and i believe the feedback will help when i deliver the piece. posted by anita owusu

  8. class was fun coming up with a 30 second commercial and winning was great this class is giving me a view that i didnt have toward actors having to do this things in front of people over and over till you get it right for then to be seen by millions of people its hard work i respect them more now pass their talent

  9. “He’s Chuck Bass.” Guilty pleasure of the week: Gossip Girl. Actor Ed Westwick is the resident bad boy “villain” you love to hate. I think he has one of the most challenging roles on the show. From perpetual prick and scheming snob to lovelorn puppy and heartbroken drunk, Chuck Bass makes each episode an adventure to watch. Just because a show is geared towards teens and young adults, doesn’t mean an actor can’t provide a 3-dimensionality to his character with layers of complicated emotions to peel back in each scene. A challenge to keep in mind when acting and writing interesting characters. xoxo - K. Watkins

  10. Glad we did the improv exercise in class last week. Hoping to do more! A lot of fun! Got the brainstorm ideas going and helped to make the scriptwriting process a lot easier by visualizing what the characters would actually say. Registered on a few casting websites and looked through postings for student films for examples. Very helpful. Working on character breakdowns this week to post soon. - K. Watkins

  11. doing our monologues was definitely challenging, more so than i though it will be since i have a little bit of acting experience but like any skill, it hasn't been honed so i lost the familiarity. i completely didn't have the confidence i thought i would but I'm glad i went through. hopefully this helps me become a more intuitive director. i also especially enjoyed the improve because it gave me a chance to be a little more me(african). I'm looking forward to writing my scripts for this class, although i wish i had taken a scriptwriting class first.

  12. Week 3 was not what I expected. I learned that I need to not focus so much on my next line once I'm performing. I had fun with the improvisation assignment as well.

  13. Everyone did a great job on their monologues this past class. I really love the improv section we did during class. It's really helping me break more out of my shell and be more comfortable with myself around people.

  15. Week 4 was a good week, I learned that freedom is one of the most important things an actor should have. I had fun reading a script out loud.

  16. Happy Halloween! Checked out a midnight screening this weekend of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and did the Time Warp all over again! Casting was impeccable for this film. Tim Curry’s “Sweet Transvestite from Transylvania” Dr. Frank-N-Furter still stands the test of time as one of the most memorable characters on film. It’s possible that no one could have done this risky and hilarious role better. How many other movies have such a long history (35 yrs) of audience participation? Probably none. Here, Frank-N-Furter makes his entrance and sets the tone for what the stranded couple can expect - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc80tFJpTuo

  17. i learnd that when u read a script that has already been prefromd you tend to want to copy the actor so yoou get better resualt when you do a cold read i think

  18. Revised final scripts and posted auditions on casting call websites. Going through this process should be a good learning experience when casting for other class and individual projects. Will begin gathering props next week for shoot.

  20. Week six was a very important week just because I learned a lot about what I'm suppose to be doing for casting calls next week and I also signed up for the casting call websites. I'm excited for next week, the only thing that makes me nervous is not knowing which one of my actors is coming and not coming.

  21. Learned a lot through this part of the casting project. Especially how important your film synopsis/tagline is and how much character breakdown and description you do. The more detailed the better. It helps those answering your casting to know if they can relate to and play that character. Which helps to increase the amount of responses you get. Casting know-how will definitely come in handy when I create bigger projects and have exhausted the help of family and friends. WIll probably do a casting for our Dig Cine group project as well.

  22. this week, we had midterms, which turned out to be verbatim so it was a little unsettling. we have our final scripts due and the casting as well. we learned the different websites that will allow us to post our castings. im not very confident about my grade being dependent on how many people show up but we will see.

  23. Week 7 was unexpected, I got very organized and so well prepared to only have one person show up.

  24. Last week’s casting call was very helpful all around. Seeing and hearing the words you put down on paper come out of the actor’s mouths was extremely insightful. It helped me to really envision the scene and know what lines need tweaking and what lines need to be cut or added. Each actor’s interpretation also showed me how differently the lines could be read from what I originally intended and how that delivery could work as well or in some cases even better. I also give the actors much respect and credit for putting themselves out there to audition for our student films.

  26. This week was a huge success. I felt like the entire class was more prepared and less nervous about this week's casting call. I got way more people than last time. I'm very happy with how things turned out.

  27. this week i found out i want no parts of casting call. too stressful for me you meet people but just a little too much. im learnig to deal with people out side of my comfort zone so i got something out of this casting call project.

  28. Felt much more relaxed during our 2nd round of casting calls last week as we knew what to expect this time around. Found the last actor that I wanted to cast for the waitress role. Sent out all 3 role offers and got acceptances back. Lined up asst. cameraman and sound tech for production shoot. Gathered all props and finished shot list. Also confirmed date, time, and wardrobe with cast and crew. On Monday, will make last call to cafe location I scouted out, otherwise will use the outdoor patio of the student lounge.

  29. Forever thanks, muchas gracias, and big props to Kelly Archuleta for helping out with my production! When the asst. cameraman for my shoot didn’t show up, I had to completely readjust my setup & Kelly stepped in to roll camera when he wasn’t in the shot. And when one of the P2 cameras wouldn’t register sound from the boom mike, Kelly sorted out the problem with the Cage (3 times!) to find out what was wrong (it was broken!).
What a difference it makes using actual actors. After I introduced everyone and had a meeting to tell them what we’d be doing, they immediately got to work rehearsing with each other while I completed set up. With the exception of the loud parking garage generator coming on at unknown intervals and a possum on set, it was a great experience! Thanks everyone!

  30. Last week was a success, my shoot was officially done. I just need to take care of post production and then it will all be done for this quarter, plus the midterm.

  31. Yahoo! Last class is on deck and Final Project is shot and edited. Had much fun with the casting process and the putting the production together. Loved the actors I chose (and even some of the ones I didn’t). I plan to keep a binder/digital file with their contact info for future projects. Will put together custom DVDs for the cast and crew during the holiday break. Hoping to add a little After Effects magic to it.
    See you guys next quarter!
